Background of the Study
Awareness of occupational health rights is critical for ensuring that employees work in safe environments and can demand appropriate protections when necessary. Occupational health rights include the right to a safe workplace, access to protective equipment, and compensation for work-related injuries. Employees who are well-informed about these rights are more likely to take precautions, report unsafe conditions, and hold employers accountable for workplace safety standards (Adeyemi & Salisu, 2023).
In Kwara State, workplace safety remains a concern in several industries, including construction, healthcare, and manufacturing. Many employees may not fully understand their occupational health rights, making them vulnerable to unsafe working conditions and exploitation. Previous studies have indicated that a lack of awareness among workers contributes to the persistence of occupational hazards, as uninformed employees are less likely to challenge unsafe practices or demand better safety measures (Ogunleye & Ibrahim, 2024).
While various laws and policies exist to protect workers, their effectiveness depends on employee awareness and employer compliance. This study seeks to evaluate the level of awareness among employees in Kwara State regarding their occupational health rights and identify factors influencing their knowledge. By understanding the extent of employee awareness, policymakers and labor organizations can develop targeted initiatives to improve workplace safety education and empower workers.
Statement of the Problem
Employee awareness of occupational health rights is crucial for ensuring workplace safety, yet many workers in Kwara State may lack adequate knowledge of their rights. This lack of awareness exposes them to risks such as workplace injuries, hazardous conditions, and exploitation by employers who do not comply with safety regulations.
One of the primary issues contributing to this problem is the inadequate dissemination of occupational health information. Many employees receive little to no training on workplace safety, and some employers fail to educate workers on their rights. Additionally, weak enforcement of occupational health policies means that workers may not feel empowered to demand better conditions.
This study aims to evaluate the level of employee awareness regarding occupational health rights in Kwara State, identify the barriers to awareness, and propose strategies to enhance knowledge and safety practices in the workplace.

Research Hypotheses

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on employees across various industries in Kwara State, assessing their level of awareness regarding occupational health rights. Limitations may include difficulty in obtaining responses from workers in informal sectors and potential biases in self-reported awareness levels.
